PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (AP) — The National Park Service temporarily closed a national park on American Samoa because of the threat of tsunami from a powerful earthquake that struck Wednesday in the South Pacific. The Park Service says it closed the National Park of American Samoa after the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch for American Samoa. Officials say park staff was instructed to return home and visitors were told to go to high ground until the tsunami danger had passed. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has since canceled the tsunami watch for American Samoa. Officials say the National Park of Samoa will be open for normal operations on Wednesday.
