Health officials confirmed that confirmed dengue fever cases have reached 8,480, marking a year-on-year increase of 36 percent. Officials also confirmed that the figure is 2,230 cases higher than 2011. The western province of Limon, on the Caribbean coast, is the worst affected area. Efforts are ongoing to tackle the spread of mosquitoes including spraying and removing stagnant water.
