SKOPJE, Macedonia (AP) — Macedonian emergency services say brief but strong gusts of wind overnight ripped up trees, tore off roofs and damaged electrical installations, sparking dozens of fires in the capital and leaving a child dead and another five people injured. Marijan Josifovski, police spokesman in the northwest town of Tetovo, said Friday that a 4-year-old girl was killed and five other people, including three children, were injured when a tree fell onto a passing car Thursday night. Fire brigade commander Blagoj Menkovski said firefighters tackled 28 small fires in Skopje overnight, sparked by damaged electrics. The national meteorological institute's Lena Jovanovska said the wind speed reached 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour), with gusts in Tetovo lasting about half an hour, and 15 minutes in Skopje.
