MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Kate is strengthening as it moves away from the Bahamas. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says that on Monday evening, the storm has strengthened slightly. Kate's maximum sustained winds are 60 mph (97 kph) with additional strengthening expected over the next two days. It poses no immediate threat to land. The storm is centered about 175 miles (282 kilometers) northeast of The Northwestern Bahamas. It's expected to turn toward the northeast overnight.
