PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Police in Kosovo used tear gas to disperse hundreds of protesters trying to storm the office of the dean of the country's main public university following accusations of corruption and mismanagement. Protesters threw stones at police and splashed them with milk and red paint. The police meanwhile used pepper spray. According to police Friday, 33 protesters have been detained and 29 policemen injured. Protest organizers say dozens of demonstrators were injured. The demonstrators, mostly students, say Dean Ibrahim Gashi and dozens of staff published research in dubious journals abroad to falsify their teaching credentials. Gashi has refused to resign. The ruling coalition has blamed the opposition for trying to topple the government through the demonstrations, which are in their third day. Kosovo's 2008 secession from Serbia is rejected by Belgrade.
