Police officials have warned the public against using private vehicles that operate as unlicensed taxis. Police figures released this week suggest that 3,499 people have been kidnapped and robbed nationwide this year by the driver after using a private taxi. Incidents have also sharply increased since June, with 342 robberies in Harare in September. There is also concern robberies of this nature will increase as Christmas approaches.
