The US consulate in Melbourne has warned its citizens based in Victoria and the rest of Australia to be vigilant and to remain on high alert as a terrorist attack in the country is “likely”. Consulate officials say it is the first time such a warning has been issued in Australia and reflects the ongoing heightened threat following the Sydney siege in December 2014, as well as a number of terrorism-related alerts since then, including two in Victoria. The US Consulate is advising US nationals to take appropriate security steps and revise personal security plans.
