MADRID (AP) — A magnitude-5.0 earthquake in a remote part of central Spain has shaken buildings in Madrid, briefly sending some panicked office workers into the streets. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake's epicenter was seven kilometers (4.3 miles) from the town of Ossa de Montiel, about a two-hour drive south of the Spanish capital. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries following the earthquake late Monday afternoon. Spain's most devastating earthquake in 50 years happened in 2011 in southern Lorca, when an unusually shallow magnitude-5.1 quake killed nine people and injured nearly 300. A study found that the Lorca quake ruptured a fault running near a basin weakened by 50 years of groundwater extraction in the area.
