Storm causes disruption in Scotland, north Germany

By The Associated Press

Strong winds are causing disruption in Scotland and northern Germany, with several railway lines closed.

National railway Deutsche Bahn said routes from Hamburg to Hannover, Berlin and Bremen were closed on Friday, along with several others in the country's north, due to uprooted trees and high winds.

In Hamburg, two students were injured when a tree fell in a school yard. Winds gusting up to 133 kilometers per hour (83 miles per hour) were recorded.

In Scotland, more than 100,000 properties were without electricity at the height of the storm. A gust of 113 miles per hour was recorded on the island of Lewis.

Authorities say ferry services were also disrupted, and fallen trees blocked many roads.
