The Bureau of Meteorology warns that Victoria is forecast to receive a month’s rainfall over the coming 72 hours, likely causing moderate flash flooding. Minor flooding near rivers and waterways is likely to occur as 50-80 millimetres of rain falls across the state. Heavy rainfall will, however, ease the threat currently posed by bushfires. The State Emergency Service has also warned drivers to exercise caution during the rains, having received 1,000 calls for help after heavy rain today, mostly from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, where storms have caused major damage to trees, in turn damaging buildings and power lines.
